Overview

About This Course

IPAF 1b, 3a and 3b training in Manchester is the broadest operator course we run. It qualifies you on static booms, mobile verticals and mobile booms in one go. It suits operatives and hire-fleet staff who never know which machine will be on site next, and employers who would rather one card covered everything.

Three machines, one theory session

The principles behind all three categories are shared: inspection, stability, hazard awareness and emergency procedures. The course covers them once, then moves through the practical on each machine in turn, from outrigger set-up on the static boom, to driving and raising the scissor lift, to slewing and outreach on the mobile boom.

Assessed separately, recorded together

Each category has its own practical assessment, so you are judged on each machine on its own merits. Pass all three, and 1b, 3a and 3b are recorded on the same IPAF PAL card, valid for five years.

Worth adding

Two of these three categories normally involve a harness, so many delegates book IPAF Harness for MEWPs alongside.

At our Pendlebury centre or on your site

The triple-category course runs at our training centre at Agecroft, Pendlebury, a short drive from Junction 17 of the M60. For hire fleets and maintenance teams with their own machines, we can also deliver it at your premises anywhere in Greater Manchester, for four or more delegates.

One ePAL, three categories

Every category you pass is issued the same day as an ePAL in IPAF's free app, valid for five years. That makes it simple for an employer or a hire desk to see exactly which machines each operative can take out.

Booking a Saturday

Courses run Monday to Saturday. For hire-fleet staff who are busiest midweek, a Saturday course is often the easiest way to qualify.
