Non-conductive tower hire in London exists for one reason: aluminium conducts and fibreglass does not. Where the risk assessment flags proximity to live apparatus, a GRP tower is often what makes a mobile platform acceptable on the permit where a metal one is not.
A GRP tower is built from glass-reinforced plastic rather than aluminium — pultruded fibreglass sections bonded with polyester resin, assembled into the same frames, braces, guardrails and platforms your crew already knows how to build. The difference is electrical: the tower itself stops being a credible path to earth if it is contacted or if a fault develops nearby. It also does not corrode, which matters in water treatment, coastal work, swimming pools, food production and chemical environments where a long aluminium hire comes back pitted.
A non-conductive tower reduces one specific risk. It does not authorise live working, and it is not a substitute for isolation, permits, safe working distances or a competent person's risk assessment. Towers are hired by platform height — your working height is roughly 2.0m above the platform. Pick the height you need to stand on, not the height you need to reach.
The narrower of the two and the one most jobs take, up to a 7.7m platform height. Worth knowing it is wider than our 0.72m aluminium single width, so check the access before you assume it goes through the same doorway.
A 1.45m platform gives you room for materials and a second operative, and it is the only width that goes the full way to 12.2m. Best where access allows.

Yes. The requirement is identical for GRP and aluminium — the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require whoever assembles, alters, dismantles or inspects the tower to be competent, which in practice means a valid PASMA Towers for Users certificate.
