Half-day Asbestos Awareness training meeting Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Essential for trades whose work could disturb asbestos. At our Croydon centre or on site across London and the South East.
Asbestos Awareness training from Access Towers gives you the knowledge to recognise where asbestos is likely to be found, avoid disturbing it, and act correctly if you do. With more than 20 years of training experience, we help over 350 trainees each month gain work-at-height and safety qualifications across London and the South East. Our helpful bookings team make it easy to arrange your training, whether you are booking for yourself, your team or someone else.
The course begins with the properties of asbestos and the effects it has on health, then moves on to the types of asbestos and the products it was used in. Delegates learn where asbestos-containing materials are most commonly found in buildings, and how to recognise materials that may contain it. A range of asbestos sample types is shown during the session, so delegates see the materials rather than only reading about them.
The second half deals with duties and procedures. It covers current legislation and guidance, everyone's role in reducing the risk of exposure, and the emergency procedures to follow if you encounter or accidentally disturb a suspected asbestos-containing material.
This is an awareness course. It exists to stop you disturbing asbestos, not to qualify you to work on it. It does not train or authorise anyone to remove, repair or otherwise work with asbestos-containing materials. That work needs separate, higher-level training, and licensed work must be carried out by a contractor holding an HSE asbestos licence.
The course runs over a half day, so it takes minimal time off the job. No previous knowledge is needed, and it suits both newcomers and people renewing training they have held before. Delegates are assessed by a short multiple-choice test at the end of the session.
Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires employers to make sure anyone liable to disturb asbestos during their work receives suitable information, instruction and training. This course provides exactly that. On successful completion delegates receive an Asbestos Awareness certificate valid for one year, and HSE guidance is that awareness training is refreshed annually to keep that knowledge current.

The properties and health effects of asbestos, types and common locations in buildings, how to identify potential asbestos-containing materials, current legislation (CAR 2012), everyone's role in reducing risk, and what to do if you disturb a suspected material.
No. This is an awareness course only. It helps you avoid disturbing asbestos and know what to do if you find it — it does not train or authorise you to work with or remove asbestos, which requires separate, higher-level training and often a licensed contractor.
Anyone whose work could foreseeably disturb asbestos — electricians, plumbers, joiners, maintenance, demolition and refurbishment workers, surveyors and more. CAR 2012 requires it for these roles.
The certificate is valid for one year. HSE guidance is that asbestos awareness training is refreshed annually, so book a refresher each year to stay current.
By a short multiple-choice test at the end of the session. Your certificate is issued on successful completion.
