Twice the deck space of a narrow tower

Priced back within 15 minutes during office hours

Double width tower hire in London gives you the bigger working platform. At 1.35m across this is the standard-size access tower — it will not fit through a domestic doorway, and that is the trade you make for room to work, room for materials and room for a second pair of hands.

When the extra width pays for itself

Plastering, rendering, painting a large facade, cladding, dry lining — any job where tools and materials need to be on the deck rather than on the floor goes measurably faster on 1.35m. Two operatives can work side by side without either standing on the other. The frames are aluminium, manufactured to EN 1004-1, and can be linked to build a continuous run of platform along a wall rather than repositioning a single tower a dozen times.

Height is the other reason people choose it

The double width reaches a 12.1m platform — roughly 14m working height — against 7.9m for the narrow tower. If the job is high rather than tight, this is the tower, and the hire rate difference at the shared heights is small enough that most people take the wider deck when access allows.

Choosing between the two

One question settles it: how does the tower get to the work? If the route runs through a standard doorway, hire a single width tower. If it does not, take the double width. Users need a valid PASMA Towers for Users card either way, and our courses run regularly from Croydon.

Also known as a standard width tower, wide access tower or double width scaffold tower.

Platform Heights from 1.0m to 12.1m

Towers are hired by platform height — your working height is roughly 2.0m above the platform. Pick the height you need to stand on, not the height you need to reach.

Double width — 1.35m

The standard-size access tower. A 1.35m deck takes two operatives and their materials, and it is the only width in the aluminium range that reaches a 12.1m platform.

EN 1004-1:2020 covers mobile access towers up to 12m platform height indoors and 8m outdoors — above 8m outside sits outside the standard and needs a specific engineered solution, so call us rather than assume. FAQs

Common Questions

The frame is 1.35m wide. It will not pass through a standard doorway built, so plan the route to the work area before you book — if access is tight, a 0.72m single width tower is the answer instead.

Platform heights run to 12.1m, which puts your working height at roughly 14.1m. That is the tallest standard tower we hire.

Yes — the 1.35m deck is sized for it, and that is the main reason people choose double over single width. Check the load class for the combined weight of operatives, tools and materials.

Yes. Double width towers can be joined to create a continuous run of platform along a facade, which beats repositioning one tower a dozen times across a long elevation. Tell us the run length and we will work out what you need.

Yes — the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require whoever assembles, alters, dismantles or inspects the tower to be competent, which in practice means a valid PASMA Towers for Users certificate.

No lock-in. Rates are quoted weekly and the period stays flexible — if the job overruns, tell us and we will extend it.
