The Awareness module gives a grounding in fall-protection principles and the law, for anyone who works with or around harnesses. The User module then covers the practical skills of choosing, fitting and using a full-body harness and lanyard correctly. It also covers working safely from height, secure anchorage and site risk assessment.
The Inspection module teaches the correct process for pre-use and formal inspection of harnesses and lanyards. In addition, it covers the wear, damage and contamination that mean equipment must be taken out of service, along with storage and record-keeping. Finally, the Leading Edge module covers work where a fall could take the lanyard over a sharp or leading edge, such as flat roofs and steel decking. It includes the selection and use of edge-tested equipment, plus the techniques that reduce the risk in these higher-hazard situations.
Across the course, participants learn how to safely work from height, conduct site risk assessments, and understand the requirements in a rescue scenario. Moreover, the training combines classroom theory with hands-on practical fitting and inspection. You are welcome to bring your own harness and lanyard along to be fitted and inspected.
The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require that no person works at height unless competent to do so, or is being trained under the supervision of a competent person. Completing our IPAF-approved harness training provides exactly that competence. On successful completion, attendees receive an industry-recognised EN qualification. Training can be completed at our Croydon centre or at your place of work, with group discounts available.

Leading-edge work is where a fall could drag the lanyard over a sharp or unprotected edge — for example on a flat roof or steel deck. This module covers the specific hazards, the selection and use of edge-tested (sharp-edge-rated) equipment, and the techniques that reduce the risk in these situations.
